Gabriel, the unexpected guest who was the catalyst for Claudia\u2019s adventures, was also the catalyst for Mary, virgin mother of the Messiah.<\/p>\n

The gardener, Sellors, is a reference to Mellors the gamekeeper in D H Lawrence\u2019s Lady Chatterley\u2019s Lover<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Noel Coward\u2019s first play, The Vortex<\/em>, first produced in 1924, is the tale of a promiscuous middle-aged woman and her relationship with her drug-addled son.<\/p>\n

Bright Young Things<\/em> is how the press described the 1920s irrepressible party animals. It is also the name of the 2003 film based on Evelyn Waugh\u2019s Vile Bodies.<\/em><\/p>\n

Brief Encounter<\/em> is the 1945 film written by No\u00ebl Coward about a married woman who falls passionately in love with a man in a railway station caf\u00e9, with poignant results.<\/p>\n
